Dr. Shower received her Bachelor of Science (with honors) in Biology from Western Carolina University, and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (with Honors) from Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys all species of animals, and has worked on both small and large animals. Her practice is currently limited to small animals. Having previously owned a mobile veterinary service, Dr. Ann (as her clients call her), wanted to expand her ability to care for her clients and their pets. A desire to provide affordable, quality care, in clinic radiology, surgery and inpatient care, she turned her dream into reality as Animal House Veterinary Clinic. She is married to Bill Shower, and her and her husband have resided in Macon County since her retirement from the United States Navy in 1995. Together, Dr. Ann and Bill have 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 9 cats and 3 dogs.
Hobbies: Dr. Ann enjoys horseback riding, reading, spending time with family, and whenever she gets the chance to return to her hometown in Hawaii , she enjoys surfing, swimming and assisting the pets of the homeless through her work with K9 Kokua.
Community: Dr. Ann believes everyone should try and give back to their community. She works closely with the Macon County Humane Society to assist in their spay and neuter campaign, provides health and surgical services to the shelter animals as needed. Providing unusual and life saving surgery to special needs animals (those that might never be adopted due to a congenital defect, surgical need, or chronic problem) her efforts have helped to place several special needs shelter pets in their forever homes.
